Exclusive: The world's first look at Apple's final iPhone 8 design in real life

Apple's upcoming new iPhone 8 is the most hotly anticipated smartphone since 2014, when news first began to leak that the company would finally release larger iPhones. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus featured the bigger displays users had been clamoring for, and they also sported a sleek new design that Apple fans loved. But now, three years later, Apple's flagship iPhones still feature a design that is practically identical to the company's 2014 models. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus pack plenty of power and new features, but smartphone fans have clearly grown tired of Apple's 2014 iPhone design, and sales are slumping as a result. The world is long overdue for a fresh new iPhone design, and Apple fans will finally get what they want in 2017 when Apple unveils its completely redesigned iPhone 8. Now, for the first time ever, consumers will get their first look at Apple's reimagined iPhone 8 design in real life. This coming September, Apple is expected to unveil three new iPhone models. The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are believed to be modest updates to the current iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. For the first time, however, Apple is expected to make a significant change to an "S" update's hardware by making the back of the phones glass instead of aluminum. Both new models are expected to support wireless charging, and present technology is unable to pass current as efficiently through metal as it does through glass. Apple's new iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will surely be impressive smartphones, but the device everyone is waiting for is the iPhone 8. According to multiple independent reports, the iPhone 8 will feature a bold new design that sandwiches a stainless steel frame between two 2.5D glass panels. The result will supposedly appear seamless, bringing Apple closer than ever to realizing Jony Ive's dream of an iPhone made of one continuous sheet of glass. The face of the iPhone 8 is expected to feature a new OLED display with a screen-to-body ratio even more impressive than the 83% ratio managed by Samsung's Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. This will reportedly be achieved in part by shifting around the device's internal components, but also by completely removing the iPhone's physical home button. Here is where reports begin to diverge. We know that Apple has been working for years on technology that will allow it to embed a TouchID fingerprint scanner directly into an iPhone's display, and several reports have said the iPhone 8 will be the first iPhone to feature an embedded fingerprint sensor. But conflicting reports suggest that the required tech isn't yet mature enough to mass-produce at the scale Apple would require for the iPhone 8, so the company may be forced to move the scanner to the back of the handset, as was the case for Samsung and its Galaxy S8. Everyone hates the iPhone 8 design that has floated around with a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, so we can only hope that Apple and its manufacturing partners found a way to make the embedded scanner work. The bad news is we cannot confirm one way or the other at this time. But the good news is Apple's iPhone 8 design has seemingly been finalized, and we're giving the world an exclusive first look at the hotly anticipated tenth-anniversary iPhone. BGR has exclusively obtained photos of an iPhone 8 mockup that is believed to feature Apple's final design. As has been the case in years past, this mockup is thought to have been built using actual finalized schematics that were leaked from the factories that will build Apple's next-generation iPhones. The mockup doesn't feature any indication of a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, however not all markings are present on the dummy, so it's not clear if this is an indication that the phone's TouchID sensor will be embedded in the display. These photos show an iPhone 8 design that is largely in line with recent rumors. The phone features 2.5D glass panels on the front and back that curve slightly at their edges

Watch North Korea's new missile soar while you contemplate the fate of humanity

After a tense few weeks of North Korea shouting at the world, launching things into the air, and many other countries subsequently shouting back, it doesn't seem like things are going to be quieting down any time soon. The reclusive nation spent the weekend showing the entire world just how close it is to becoming a real problem by sending its new ballistic missile skyward. Reports of the launch flooded the internet shortly after it took place, but now the country itself has released a short video of the test so you can see it for yourself. The missile, which was identified as the country's new Hwasong-12, performed better than any of its predecessors. It reached an altitude of nearly 1,250 miles, which is a showcase of how North Korea's missile program is maturing, but it was also quite well-behaved, splashing down less than 500 miles away from the launch site. It didn't pose a threat to neighboring countries thanks to its trajectory, but many military analysts are calling it a sizable leap in terms of North Korea's weapons technology. The country has since said that the missile is capable of toting a nuclear warhead. The successful launch comes after a significant embarrassment for North Korea's military in April, when a missile test ended in the destruction of the entire weapon shortly after takeoff. The Hwasong-12's launch has drawn the usual criticism from all the major global players, including Russia, whose coastal waters were nearest to the missile's eventually splashdown.......

Mysterious flashes of light above Earth have a less-than-alien origin

You can see a lot from 1 million miles away. The blues, greens and browns of Earth's oceans and land masses stand out against the blackness of space as clouds move above the planet's surface. And sometimes you see something you may not expect. SEE ALSO: The planet Donald Trump doesn't want you to see Scientists working with NASA's EPIC camera on the Deep Space Climate Observatory spacecraft (DSCOVR), located about 1 million miles from Earth, have caught sight of hundreds of mysterious flashes of light reflecting off our planet over the course of a year. What could they be? Reflections of sunlight glinting off oceans? A really, really annoying guy with a flashlight? Aliens? In reality, the flashes are likely coming from ice crystals high up in Earth's atmosphere, but it took scientists a fair bit of observation to figure that out. To solve the mystery, researchers started digging through old DSCOVR photos to try to figure out what the flashes could be, and they came across something interesting in the process: This isn't the first time a spacecraft has spotted these flashes of light. Famed astronomer and science communicator Carl Sagan actually saw bright flashes like those seen by DSCOVR in photos taken of Earth by the Galileo spacecraft, which explored Jupiter in the 1990s. Initially, Sagan thought those flashes were reflective bits of the ocean, but the team of DSCOVR researchers saw the flashes over land as well, meaning that it couldn't just be a water-based phenomenon. The scientists landed on the ice crystal explanation after realizing that the flashes were coming from a high altitude and couldn't be caused by lightning due to the limited spots on the globe where they appeared. A full view of the Earth with sun glint.Image: NASA's Goddard Space Flight CenterDSCOVR launched to space in 2015, and since that time, the spacecraft has taken hundreds of photos of the full sunlit side of the Earth, allowing researchers to see more than 800 of these flashes of light. "The source of the flashes is definitely not on the ground," Alexander Marshak, DSCOVR scientist and co-author of a new study about the flashes in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, said in a statement. "It's definitely ice, and most likely solar reflection off of horizontally oriented particles." One day, these glints could be used to detect ice crystals and other atmospheric phenomenon on alien worlds hundreds of light-years from Earth. For now, though, scientists are going to keep using DSCOVR and other tools to study the glints at close-range. WATCH: Google Earth Timelapse shows how man has altered the planet in 32 years......

Iran leader denounces 'unworthy' election rhetoric in veiled swipe at Rouhani

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei denounced the heated rhetoric of Iran's presidential election campaign on Wednesday as "unworthy", a thinly-veiled rebuke of pragmatist President Hassan Rouhani's attacks on his main conservative challenger. The withdrawal of other conservative candidates has turned Friday's election into an unexpectedly tight two-horse race between Rouhani, 68, and hardline cleric Ebrahim Raisi, a 56-year-old protege of the supreme leader. Khamenei's intervention two days before Iranians go to the polls could help sway the vote by signaling the supreme leader's dissatisfaction with Rouhani's conduct.......

New report confirms highly anticipated Galaxy Note 8 feature

As popular as the Galaxy S8 has been in its first few weeks on the market, it appears that Samsung fans patient enough to hold out for the Galaxy Note 8 are going to be rewarded. In a new report on Tuesday, The Korea Herald backed up recent rumors that Samsung will bring dual cameras to the Note 8. Dual cameras were originally meant to appear on the Galaxy S8 and S8+, but the Herald says that the company was forced to scrap the plans due to an issue with the cost. "Although Samsung did not officially announce the adoption of dual cameras (for the Galaxy S8), it is inevitable to feature the cameras, which stole the spotlight during this year's Mobile World Congress," said Daishin Securities analyst Park Kang-ho. Industry sources tell the Herald that the dual cameras on the Note 8 will feature a 12-megapixel wide angle lens and 13-megapixel telephoto lens capable of up to 3x optical zoom. These are the exact specs that KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in a research note late last month. While Samsung has yet to even confirm the existence of the Galaxy Note 8, it seems like a safe bet to assume that it will feature dual cameras. Apple one-upped Samsung when it brought dual cameras to the iPhone 7 Plus last year, and there's no doubt that the iPhone 8 will come equipped with an even more impressive setup. If Samsung is going to compete, it has no choice but to adapt.......

Here's how to get a free castle in Italy (seriously)

Want a free castle in Italy? Sure, take one, your highness. But, as with everything good, there's a catch. As part of an initiative called the Strategic Tourist Plan, Italy is giving away 103 historic buildings — villas, inns, houses, towers, etc. to entrepreneurs willing to take them. (Yes, that means it could be you.) SEE ALSO: While the United fiasco unfolded, a travel writer made $11,000 off overbooked flights All the recipient must do is pledge to renovate the buildings, which are mainly in more remote areas of the country, in a way that will diversify Italy's tourism industry. This means transforming them into hotels, restaurants, visitor centers, spas, shops — anything that will attract tourist traffic. This will ideally help ease crowding in popular Italian tourist hubs like Venice and Milan, instead drawing crowds to chill, lesser-known spots along cycling paths, hiking trails, or religious walking routes. Does the work seem worth it? You'll need to submit a proposal to the State Property Agency by June 26. So, if you've dreamed for years of turning a beautiful castle into a go-kart track, now's your chance! We always knew you were royalty. :') WATCH: This bike helmet folds flat and can fit inside your backpack......
